Lambda Divers is a nonprofit social organization that promotes recreational scuba diving among the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Lambda Divers was founded in 1989 by David Bress and a small group of friends who wanted to meet other LGBTQ divers to enjoy friendship and diving in a supportive 'family' environment. Since then it has grown to be one of the most successful LGBTQ scuba clubs in the world. We provide a unique forum through which LGBTQ divers can meet, learn more about diving, make friends and dive buddies, and enjoy great camaraderie on dive trips and social events.
Lambda Divers hosts dive trips each year, aiming to provide trips at the lowest cost possible to our members. The club also sponsors events in the greater DC area such as "discover scuba" classes, movie outings, and other local events related to scuba diving (e.g., the hyperbaric chamber in Baltimore, speakers, etc.). Picnics, happy hours, holiday parties, and Pride Day provide even more opportunities for social interaction.
